First beta of Tango releasedLast wednesday (or thursday in my timezone), we released the first beta version of Tango, a library for the D programming language that replaces the runtime, and adds another, more object oriented set of functionality to the core application interfaces. There's also a listing of the current features. Using Tango means that one switch out Phobos, the D standard library, although it has been mentioned that someone may create a wrapper such that applications can be ported more easily. The release has taken it's time, as the idea was born almost nine months ago. It has involved merging the two libraries Mango and Ares, sharpening the functionality, adding some, removing some and writing as much high quality documentation as possible. Noting that this is a beta release, neither library nor documentation is considered complete, but it should be fairly stable and the documentation already there very readable. Tango has a fairly high count of contributors in the D community, afaik highest in the community by a large margin, and I consider them to be very talented and/or visionary programmers and software engineers. This, and us being fairly active and with a short reaction time, should make Tango a safe and (of course, highly subjective) better choice for developers wanting to create stable and performant software using the D programming language. I also believe that Tango may become a catalyst for better and more high level technologies in several areas.
