Improving and extending Tango IO

Yesterday, we announced some of the new features coming to Tango. We have decided to do announcements of important new features, whether already in SVN or not, outside of the regular Tango release cycle, and the one about the IO was the first.

The announcement talked about the new Stream abstraction that I mentioned in my previous Tango post, but also detailed the progress plans for a new component for asynchronous IO. Juan, who did the Selector package, will head off this work, and it may or may not have an effect on the selectors already in Tango, but a proper upgrade path will be provided if necessary. The second part of the implementation should enable highly efficient multiplexing of large numbers of aynchronous IO tasks.

Given the importance of IO in almost all layers of an application, it should be no surprise that we put so much time into it. This should neither be expected to be the last news in our pursuit of the most excellent IO functionality there is :) (No, no, we have no shame in promoting ourselves ;) )
